SIGHTS

Our area is not only indicated for swimming. Lichnos (or any of the dozens of beautiful beaches that surround it) may be considered as a paradise for swimmers, however there are many things and many places worth to visit.

  For instance:

The castle of Parga with its panoramic view of the city from above.

Built by the Normans in the 14th cen. to protect residents of Parga from the pirates.

On the top of a nearby hill, we can see the castle of Anthousa. Built by Ali Pasha (the terrifying Turkish Pasha of Epirus) who wanted to supervise Parga, which so eagerly wished to conquer.

Perfectly maintained, it offers an amazing view of the Ionian blue.

Ancient Dodona, the major center of worship of Zeus and Dione.

Visitors will tour the archaeological site where stood the most ancient oracle of the Greek territory and they will see the majestic theater of Dodoni, built in the 3rd century by King Pyrrhus of Epirus.

The Necromancy, a sacred tomb monument where the ancient visitors could go to the underground hall and -with the help of priests- they could come in touch with the souls of the dead.

Acheron River and its gorge, an actual monument of nature.

This is the famous river of Greek mythology where Charon (Death) lead souls to the underworld with his boat.

Near the springs of the river are, according to the Greek mythology, the Gates of Hades.

We highly recommend a hiking trip through the narrow gorge, where visitors will be enchanted by the rugged landscape and they will understand why this river has inspired so many myths and why it is so famous all over the world.
